Northern leaders meet in Kununurra

Government, business and Indigenous leaders from across northern Australia are meeting in Kununurra in the far north west of Western Australia today and tomorrow.

Their discussions are focussed on infrastructure and business development in the north, including in tourism and involving Indigenous communities.

The Northern Australia Advisory Council will meet with the Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, Matt Canavan, in Kununurra today, in the lead-up to the Ministerial Forum on Northern Development meeting tomorrow. The council advises Minister Canavan in his work to support a stronger northern Australian economy.

The Indigenous Reference Group on northern Australia is also meeting in Kununurra today.

The group will attend tomorrow’s Ministerial Forum to put forward recommendations on how to develop Indigenous businesses in the north. It will discuss ways to grow the involvement and capability of Indigenous land owners to underpin development and support Indigenous innovation in northern Australia.
