The Australian Government’s Smart Cities Plan is having an impact in northern Australia.

It sets out a vision for 21st Century cities that are productive and liveable and that support innovation, investment and local jobs.

Through City Deals the Australian Government is contributing $100 million towards the North Queensland Stadium and $150 million towards the Townsville Eastern Access Rail Corridor. The investment in the stadium construction will employ over 2000 people with work due to be completed for the 2020 National Rugby League season.

Now, the Australian Government’s attention is shifting to Darwin, Australia’s only tropical capital city, where it is working closely with the Northern Territory Government and the City of Darwin to develop a Darwin City Deal.

The deal will focus on reinvigorating the central business district and establishing Darwin as a vibrant and liveable city, with a growing population and diversified economy.
